DayStar MAGNESIUM Quark Solar filter
Daystar Filters’ Magnesium I Quark B2 Line Eyepiece Solar Filter departs from the more popular H-alpha tuned filters and focuses on the highly magnetized high energy in the bright 5172.8? wavelength. The temperatures for energetic activity emitting the B2 line are calculated to be extremely high. Spectroscopically, a line “splitting” called the Zeeman effect can be observed, whereas the dark absorption “splits” and occurs slightly above and below the typical wavelength where light from non-magnetized activity is absorbed. Views through a magnesium filter reveal plage and dark absorptive mottling of the chromosphere structure. The line is brighter than calcium, H-alpha, and even sodium, so it is very easy for observers to see and will require short exposures when imaging in this wavelength.
Filter Properties :
- Tuned to magnesium I B2-line 5172.8Å wavelength
- Magnesium is a bright green color that is easily visible in the center of the human eye’s highest sensitivity
- Very bright wavelength is easy to see and requires short exposure times when imaging
- Use to view the boundary layers between granulation and spicule, heavy surface mottling and high contrast granulation; it shows plage in equal or higher detail as the calcium line and reveals Zeeman splitting in absorption of magnetized areas of active regions
Integrated 12mm blocking filter with a 21mm clear filter aperture - Tuning knob allows for ±0.5Å wing shift for Doppler-shift compensation
- Markers at every 0.1Å for reference and repeatability
- Integrated 4.2x Barlow lens magnifies image slightly
- 2-element telecentric lens design produces flat views with limited edge distortion
- Optical coatings are engineered for the Mg B2-line 517nm wavelength
- Internal baffles improve image contrast
- LED indicators for power, warming, ready, and fault
- Mounting
